After a really stressful college experience, a few bad drug trips, depression, and a questionable amount of prescription meds, I decided to become vegan overnight. Later that year, I completed my first seven-day juice fast and became a regular meditator and yoga practitioner.
The next year, I decided to go raw vegan. This means no cooked food whatsoever; only raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Naturally, I escalated it and became a fruitarian—a person who only eats fruit (duh).
I also did these weird practices like grape fasting, water fasting, one meal a day, and raw food combining. Although I was losing a ton of weight, this diet was not helping with my blood sugar or anemia. I was convincing myself I’m doing this to enlighten my consciousness. Of course, while watching mukbang videos because I was starving.
I admit that I might have taken it all too far. One night during one of my obscure fasts, I passed out. Fortunately, our helper at home caught me before I hit the floor. After that, I stopped being a raw vegan and settled into being a regular vegan for another two years.
My dad was also pressuring me to stop my nonsense. His argument was that Steve Jobs died from eating too much fruits.
Well, father, Steve Jobs also invented Apple.
