my first goddaughter

The thing with children is that we tend to project our interests onto them. I am definitely not an exception.

Claudia is my first goddaughter. For her baptism, I commissioned a portrait based on her astrology, Human Design, and numerology. This seemed like a completely normal (and thoughtful) gift and not at all evidence that I spend too much time thinking about these things.

I wanted to give her something she might appreciate when she’s older. Something more personal than a toy she’ll outgrow or a dress she’ll only wear once. So I gave her a portrait of who the stars, planets, and numbers claimed she might become.

Hopefully one day she’ll look at it and find it charming. God knows I would’ve loved having a crazy auntie who was deeply committed to her niche interests.
